This online course overviews the concepts and strategies that develop positive behavioral skills in individuals with autism. In this course, you will learn about the components of applied behavioral analysis, research based strategies that teach and develop positive behavioral skills, and planning for the prevention and intervention of specific behavioral needs. As a result of this course, you will gain great knowledge about resources and tools related to the needs of individuals with autism for use in home, work, and community.
Course objectives:
- Review characteristics of behavior in students with autism
- Identify the basic elements of behavior
- Describe theories about behavioral needs in students with autism
- Analyze behavior cycles from a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) approach
- Plan behavior intervention programs to promote positive behavioral changes
- Consider cultural and familial differences when developing an intervention plan
- Implement strategies within a behavioral intervention plan (BIP)
